In another new record high, Malaysia recorded 1,240 new Covid-19 cases today with 691 recoveries.
500 of these new cases were spread from prisons mostly, namely the Kepayan Prison, Seberang Perai, and the new cluster in Tapah Prison.
We also recorded 7 deaths, marking the mortality rate of Covid-19 in Malaysia at 0.9%.
Additionally, 3 new clusters were recorded: the Kapor cluster in Sabah, Hampar cluster in Negeri Sembilan, and Tapah cluster in Perak.
The Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah noted that the Health Ministry has already expected this high number of daily cases, due to the country’s high R0.
However, the CMCO appears to have an effect in lowering the R0. Pre-CMCO, our R0 was at 2.2. Now, it has gone down to 1.5.
For now, as long as the R0 is as such, we will see 4-digit cases. Once the R0 reaches below 1.0, we will begin to see 3-digit cases.
