There is no need to declare a State of Emergency at this time according to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

According to a statement released by Istana Negara’s Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had applied for a State of Emergency to be declared to fight the spread of Covid-19.

“After refining the application and discussions with rulers and observing the situation being faced by the country, Al-Sultan Abdullah felt the current government has managed to deal with this epidemic effectively.

“His Majesty strongly believes in the ability of the Government under the leadership of the Prime Minister to continue to implement policies and enforcement actions to curb the Covid-19 pandemic from continuing to spread.

“Al-Sultan Abdullah is of the opinion that there is currently no need for His Majesty to declare a state of emergency in this country or any part of Malaysia,” read the statement.

However, the Agong has also warned politicians to stop any politicking which could cause instability in the administration of the country.

“Al-Sultan Abdullah also opined that there was no need for Members of Parliament to continue irresponsible actions that could disrupt the stability of the existing Government.

“His Majesty stressed that the National Budget 2021 which will be tabled in Parliament is very important to the people in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic and reviving the country’s economy. Therefore, the financial allocation is very much needed by frontline staff to carry out their duties and responsibilities,” continued the statement.

His Majesty also expressed concern regarding the people’s anxiety due to the increase in new clusters and positive cases but expressed confidence in the high spirits and unity that has been displayed.

“In this regard, His Majesty called on all citizens, regardless of background and especially political beliefs, to put aside all differences and disputes to unite and play their respective roles in helping the Government and authorities curb the Covid-19 pandemic for their personal safety and the well-being of this country we love together.”
