Malaysian employees are being reminded of their rights as the work-from-home (WFH) requirement for zones across the Klang Valley and Sabah under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) starts on October 22, 2020.
The Human Resource Ministry (MOHR) stressed that employers cannot deduct workers’ salary or force them to take annual or unpaid leave if they are required to WFH.

However, MOHR Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan explained that employers can discuss an alternative workaround that would benefit the organization and all parties involved.
The minister said that regulations for the WFH order were in line with the rules set during the nationwide Movement Control Order (MCO) period in March.
According to MOHR guidelines, employers are required to pay employees their full salaries during the lockdown period and may only offer alternatives subjected to the agreement of both parties.
If a company breaks this rule, workers can lodge a complaint to law enforcement authorities or directly to MOHR.
