When the Finance Ministry announced their logo for Belanjawan 2021 yesterday, the public was stunned – some for the wrong reasons.

The media statement titled “Launch of the 2021 Budget Logo” drew ire from quite a number of netizens for being tone-deaf while the rakyat struggles through the pandemic and economic hardship.
Thanks Zafrul. The logo

Will solve Selangor water crisis

Will provide enough PPE to Sabah
Will help on economy recovery
Will create jobs
Will eliminate kleptocrats
Excellent..
(wonder when these ppl will start to think)
The media statement explained the font, colours, and motifs of the logo in great detail, before moving on to the three main focuses of Budget 2021:
1) the people’s well-being
2) business continuity
3) economic resilience
Even the Budget 2021 website features the 2021 Budget Logo Rationale section first, while the three main focuses of the budget sit below it.
Malaysians were quick to reply with sarcastic comments applauding the reveal and the importance of a Budget 2021 logo during this time.
Your timing is as amazing as all the wonderful aid policies that you have rolled out that put Singapore, Australia and others to shame. This logo will save many jobs and stimulate the economy as much as MKN’s daily announcements bring joy

Thank you for the amazing logo. You have inadvertently solved poverty and the many struggles Malaysians have to face in this pandemic. Aku dah tak marah dah. I'm very happy now. The logo is godsent. All your previous transgressions are forgiven! Thank you thank you thank you.

Clearly, with the launch of this logo, the skyrocketing unemployment rate and the plunging economy of Malaysia, will now be saved.
Well done, Sir! Well done, indeed.
However, announcements of a new logo for the yearly Budget isn’t something new. There’s a new logo for the national Budget every year, after all.
Last year, the announcement for last year’s Budget 2020 logo merely mentioned how “the Ministry of Finance launched the official logo of Budget 2020 as a symbolic icon to the spirit of prosperity and unity and well-being of all Malaysians” and to prevent public confusion.
It would seem that the importance placed on the reveal of the Budget 2021 logo did not sit right with Malaysians, but hopefully the launch of the actual budget for next year will bring actual good news for those struggling through the pandemic.
