There will be yet another water cut as Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) have again halted work at Sungai Selangor Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3 and Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plants.

The suspension of these four plants has caused an unscheduled water supply disruption involving 1,196,457 accounts covering 1,292 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang/Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat. (See the full list of affected areas here.)

In a statement released at 7.30am today, Air Selangor said this action had to be taken after pollution of raw water resources was detected in Sungai Selangor at 2:00 am this morning 19 October 2020.

“For the process of diluting and flushing of contaminants found in the Selangor River, immediate action has been taken by releasing water by gravity from HORAS 600 with a capacity of 285 million liters per day and releasing 800 million liters per day of raw water from the dam.

“Meanwhile, the Selangor Water Management Board (LUAS) is pumping raw water through the KL Larut pond with a capacity of 336 million liters per day for the same purpose,” read the statement.

As of 6:30am, the pollution at Sungai Selangor is at a level of 1 TON.

When this water pollution was detected Air Selangor says work on another water disruption following a ruptured treated water pipe was 80% completed but this latest incident involving the same plant means that they will not be able to restore water according to the timeline announced yesterday.

Help is on the way, however as Air Selangor is providing water supply tanker trucks to the affected areas with priority given to critical premises such as hospitals and dialysis centres while consumers who need emergency water supply assistance such as for funeral arrangements can call 15300.

“Air Selangor fully understands the situation of consumers who need clean water, especially during the increase in Covid-19 cases and the implementation of this Conditional Movement Control Order by taking all efforts to minimize the impact of disruption on affected consumers.

“Scheduled water supply disruption information will be informed from time to time through all Air Selangor communication mediums including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Air Selangor application and our website at www.airselangor.com.”
