During a live press conference from self-isolation, Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob explained that wedding ceremonies are still allowed in areas where a Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is in effect.
The minister said that taking into account opinions from members of the public who’ve already paid for their events, the government has agreed to allow ceremonies, where people gather in mass, to take place according to already established Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).
He said that guests from outside the CMCO are also allowed to attend ceremonies by flashing the addressed wedding invitation to police roadblocks if needed.
However, Ismail Sabri explains that additional supervision would be mandatory for the events to ensure that guidelines are abided by.
For weddings hosted at private hotels, the hotel management must provide adequate manpower to ensure that SOP is followed.
Meanwhile, for events held in kampungs or housing areas, People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) personnel must be stationed to monitor depending on the number of attending guests.
Two RELA officers must be present during an event with 100 to 200 guests, three officers for 300 to 500 guests, and four officers for 500 or more guests.
