Klang Officially A Red Zone, But Why Are Schools Still Open?

Klang is officially a Covid-19 red zone.
The Selangor Covid-19 Task Force revealed on 6 October that the district of Klang currently has 77 active cases, where Mukim Klang is also a red zone with 77 active cases and Kapar with 6 active cases.

Among the new cases in Klang involved two schools; SMK Pandamaran Jaya with two infected students (siblings) and Year Six classes at SK Taman Sri Andalas.
However, the Selangor Education Department said school sessions in Klang will continue as usual.
The two Klang schools exposed to Covid-19 positive individuals remain open and have instructed the affected classes with students and teachers to undergo 14-day home quarantine.
Why are schools still open?
According to Bernama, Selangor Education Department Director Izmi Ismail said that schools would only be closed if the Health Ministry advises them to do so.
Experts also believe that closing schools should only be a last resort if the infection spirals out of control.
Malaysian Public Health Physicians’ Association president Datuk Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar told New Straits Times that would greatly affect the students’ learning process while Melaka Action Group for Parents in Education chairman Mak Chee Kin explains that online learning is not the same as in-person lessons.
Dr Zainal believes that the current standard operating procedures (SOP) in place and additional measures by the Health Ministry is sufficient to contain the infections as long as schools, students and parents remain vigilant.
Selangor currently records 232 active Covid-19 cases.
