Govt Announces Sabah Interstate Travel Ban From October 7 Onwards

Exemptions are given to special cases involving emergencies, deaths, necessary services and others with the permission of the Health Ministry.

The National Security Council (MKN) has announced a travel ban to and from Sabah that comes into effect on 7 October 2020.

In a statement, Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob states that the travel ban prohibits anyone from entering or leaving the state for 14 days until 20 October 2020.

However, there are exemptions given to special cases involving emergencies, deaths, necessary services and others with the permission of the Health Ministry.

Only these categories are allowed to enter Sabah during the 14-day interstate travel ban period:

  • Sabahans holding MyKad code H
  • Spouse to Sabahans who have a valid Malaysian immigration pass issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department, State of Sabah, or proof of marriage and child birth certificate.
  • Essential service workers (essential service) who have a valid pass issued by the Immigration Department, State of Sabah.
  • Non-Sabahan students who have a student card / pass from the Malaysian Immigration Department, State of Sabah.
  • Federal Civil Service members serving in Sabah are required to obtain the stamp of section 66 (1) (d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 at the Immigration office Sabah after entering the state.
  • Permanent resident of Sabah who has a MyPR code H or Entry Permit Card or the endorsement of the entry permit in the passport.
  • Applications to the Chief Minister’s Department through the Office of Home Affairs & Research for consideration.

Those who have obtained permission to enter and leave Sabah must undergo Covid-19 screening test upon arrival at the entry points of their respective destinations.
