The federal authorities are considering implementing a movement control order (MCO) on Kota Kinabalu due to the steady increase in Covid-19 cases there.

According to Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, authorities were suggesting so because they believed the state’s capital might become a “red zone” soon if cases continued to rise.

The government is thinking about locking down KK so this Covid-19 doesn’t spread to other districts. This is coming from the Health Ministry but the federal government will have to approve it. They will look at the situation and decide if it’s under control. If not, then we have no choice, we have to protect people first.

A targeted enhanced movement control order (TEMCO) has already been implemented two days ago on four districts in Sabah’s east coast, namely in Lahad Datu, Tawau, Kunak, and Semporna.

The TEMCO was imposed after the four districts recorded a total of 1,195 Covid-19 cases from 1 September.
