With the Sabah 2020 State Elections looming closer and closer, many Sabahans in West Malaysia find themselves at a loss on how to return home to vote. Thankfully, there’s a group of passionate young Malaysians who are doing their all to help these stranded Sabahans with a crowdfunding initiative!
Pulang Mengundi Sabah basically works to pool together resources and funds to fly back to fly back Sabahans who are unable to afford flight tickets for the state election on 26 September.
Therefore, in celebrating the display of democracy in Sabah, we, a group of young people, have started an initiative to help bring home Sabahans through the #Pulang MengundiSabah campaign so that they can carry out their responsibilities as voters.Pulang Mengundi Sabah team via Facebook.
The idea stemmed from nine passionate, bipartisan Malaysian youth – students and working graduates – who wanted to foster the process of democracy while addressing the difficulties faced by Sabahan youth and students to go home to vote.
Economic constraints, distance gaps and time constraints should not be barriers to participation in the electoral process. Looking at the constraints that limit the opportunities for young Sabahans to vote in the State Elections, we are gathering efforts to jointly help mobilize public contributions and invite corporate sector contributions.Pulang Mengundi Sabah team via Facebook.
How it works
They will then send out the banking details and guide to donating. Once the proof of donation is given, the team will provide a receipt of the flight tickets bought using the donation provided.
Meanwhile, those who’d like to apply for funds to donate can register online (HERE).
