Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced in his special address that the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) will be extended to 31 December 2020

Entertainment outlets – such as nightclubs – will still not be allowed to operate as it is difficult to ensure physical distancing is practised in the premises. The country will also not be opened to foreign tourists for the duration of the RMCO.

Though the RMCO is extended, Muhyiddin mentioned he is confident that the lives of Malaysians will not be affected as most daily activities can be carried out under ‘new normal’ practices.

Although Malaysia has successfully controlled the spread of the novel coronavirus, the Prime Minister said that the same cannot be said for countries around the world. He also mentioned that it will still take some time for a proper vaccine to be found.

The nation has been under MCO since 18 March 2020, which was then lifted on 4 May to open the local economy under the Conditional MCO (CMCO). The CMCO then ended on 10 June, which gave way to what we now know as the RMCO
