A secondary school in Kuala Lumpur just proved how generous Malaysians can be by setting up a free pantry full of essential supplies to help students in need.

In a Facebook post, SMK Wangsa Melawati shared their newly launched Gerobok Rezeki that consists of biscuits, cooking oil, rice, flour, canned food, sugar, Milo packets and soap.

There’s no one manning the free pantry, so students can come and take what they need without judging eyes.

These items are donated by the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PIBG), whereby students and parents are welcome to contribute various items such as stationery, food, drinks, groceries, clothing or even cash to assist underprivileged students.

The school tells TRP that they decided to set up the free pantry to help around 35 families with students at SMK Wangsa Melawati who need assistance, especially during these trying times.

Another reason is to also keep these needy students interested in attending school everyday.

And it has worked!

They’ve also noticed a significant increase in parental and community involvement in the school, especially via donations for the students in need.

Seeing the success of this Gerobok Rezeki, the school says that they will keep the project going so long as donations keep coming in.
