Syed Saddiq Is Starting His Own Youth-Based Political Party Instead, No Pejuang For Him

Syed Saddiq is looking to set up his own political party which will be youth-based and multiracial.
What you need to know: While many people expected the young politician to side with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s new Malay-based party Pejuang, Syed Saddiq decided to form his own political party instead.
Who said what: The former PPBM Youth chief cites other youth-led political parties and movements, such as Future Forward in Thailand and En Marche in France, as a motivation to kickstart his own political party.
He notes that such a move is timely to ensure Malaysian politics are not endlessly chained, controlled, and monopolised by the same old people.
Why it matters: Malaysia’s political scene is sorely in need of a younger voice. For example, our current Minister of Youth and Sports, Dato Sri Reezal Merican, is 48 years old.
