Minister Finally Fined For Breaking Quarantine, But Just RM1,000

Just like the Sivagangga index patient and the “Pink wristband Aunty” who dined at a restaurant, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali is also being fined for breaching his quarantine order.
However, his fine pales in comparison with the fines issued to other people who have broken quarantine. Sivagangga cluster index patient Nezar Mohamed Sabur Batcha was fined RM12,000 and jailed for five months, while “Pink wristband Aunty” Nur Emah Mohamad Hashim was fined RM8,000 and jailed for one day.
The Health Ministry has issued Mohd Khairuddin with a compound of RM1,000 for not following quarantine procedure.
The Minister has paid the fine.
The compound was issued under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 (Regulation) and Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 [Act 342].
In a statement, the Health Ministry said Mohd Khairuddin had returned from Turkey on 7 July and tested negative for Covid-19 then, and on his second and third swab tests.
Despite this, Mohd Khairuddin should have remained in quarantine for 14 days but has been seen out and about.
