A new Covid-19 cluster has been confirmed in Kuala Lumpur today, known as Maju Cluster, with a total of three confirmed positive cases so far.

The Health Ministry explained that the cluster was detected from a restaurant in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur following two consecutive positive cases (Case 9176 and Case 9177) earlier reported on 16 August.

These new Covid-19  infections were detected as a result of random testing carried out at restaurants around Kuala Lumpur.

Following the positive test results of the restaurant workers, close contact testing revealed a customer positive for the coronavirus.

The customer had developed symptoms of headaches and sore throat on 17 August, but was only revealed to be positive on 21 August. She is currently receiving treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

To date, the ministry states that 672 people have been screened, including 16 workers and 656 customers with 669 test results coming back negative.

Active case detection is currently underway and close contacts of the patients are being screened for Covid-19.

Disinfection and sanitization activities are also being taken at the restaurant in question.

Currently, Malaysia has 179 active Covid-19 cases with the death toll remaining at 125.
