WHO Gives Everyone A Real Reason To Avoid Their Dentists

New guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) suggests that you should avoid visiting your dentist during this time because of the risk of spreading Covid-19.

What you need to know: WHO suggests that those without an urgent need to get their teeth checked should postpone their dental appointments for the time being.

Of course, dental emergencies such as oral infections, bleeding in the mouth, trauma to the mouth, and severe mouth pain should still require a hasty trip to the dentist. However, consider postponing your dental appointments for non-essential healthcare such as regular check-ups, cleanings, and preventive care.

Why it matters: WHO outlined the risk as dental procedures involve close contact between a patient and the dentist. Saliva and other microscopic particles are often thrown into the air, and dentists have to be very close to their patient’s mouth to perform their duties.

Since the coronavirus spreads easily and is even suspected to spread through airborne droplets, the risks of transmissions are high during dental visits.
