Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah has apologised over his comments on the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (Finas) licensing issue.

He has also guaranteed that action will not be taken on social media practitioners.

As a minister, I should apologise, because when I replied about the issue in the Dewan Rakyat on July 23, I did so in a very straightforward manner. Apparently, politicians cannot be straight, when one is straight, he gets hammered.

Saifuddin made headlines after he said that any production of films will require a license from Finas worth RM50,000 which outraged netizens on social media.

He later tried to clarify the issue by stating that the government had no intention of restriction the freedom of users on the internet.
