Malaysia Football Legend V Krishnasamy Passes Away At 72

Malaysia has lost a footballing legend as a V. Krishnasamy, who was part of the national team who made their way to the 1972 Olympics in Munich recently passed away.

He was 72.

According to The Star, he was admitted to the hospital on 31 July shortly before he died on 2 August and had previously suffered from illnesses.

The former footballer reportedly had diabetes – which resulted in his left leg being amputated.

Known as the ‘Iron Man’ during his playing career, Krishnasamy was part of the team which played in the Olympic Games in Munich.

The former midfielder played for the national team from 1970 to 1976 and represented local clubs, Penang and Perak.

Besides being a footballer, Krishnasamy also served with the Prisons Department.

Despite not advancing further than the group stages, that team did notch a victory in Europe against the United States, 3-0, and was placed third.
