Covid-19 Guidelines For Mosques & Congregational Prayer Remains, Says Minister

Weekly congregational Friday prayers at mosques would continue to be held in observance to Covid-19 guidelines.
According to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, the standard operating procedures (SOP) for Muslim communal prayer activities won’t be going anywhere, anytime soon as it is necessary to combat the spread of the pandemic.
These guidelines included mandatory check-ins, temperature screenings, social distancing and hygiene practices as well as attendance limits and restrictions against the sick, young and elderly.
The minister revealed that official SOPs were drafted with the aid of the Special Muzakarah Committee of the National Council on Islamic Religious Affairs of Malaysia (MKI), the National Security Council (MKN), the Health Ministry (MOH), as well as from international Islamic scholars like the Grand Imam of the al-Azhar mosque – an extension of the al-Azhar University in Egypt -, and scholars in Saudi Arabia.
The Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) had even published two separate books to look at the pandemic from an Islamic point of view, which Zulkifli had apparently written himself.
The books titled; Soal Jawab Fiqh Covid-19, an F.A.Q and guides for Muslims during the pandemic, as well as Inilah Doaku, a collection of daily prayers, both available for free downloads on the JPM site, HERE.
