Sinking right into the comforting arms of nostalgia, A&W Malaysia has just opened its first retro-themed outlet in Petaling Jaya that’s essentially a bubble of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.

While the outlet at Seventeen Mall in Section 17 bears markings of several eras, it’s hard to miss the overall Americana retro diner of the 50’s.

The sunny interiors come complete with old-school booths, retro bar stools and even a jukebox to blast the hottest tunes of the day!

Needless to say, it is very, very Instagrammable.

The entire retro concept is actually a nod to A&W spot in Malaysian history as the nation’s first fast food restaurant, opening in 1963 at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

It was the first time Malaysians had the pleasure of noshing on American-style burgers and fries without flying off to the USA and A&W was pretty much the shining star.

In fact, A&W’s nostalgic ties with Malaysians is so strong that news of its iconic PJ drive-in restaurant closing down sparked a wave of sorrow online from those who basically grew up with the restaurant.

So, the opening of A&W Malaysia’s first ever retro outlet is basically an invitation to revisit the good old days filled with root beer floats, burgers, curly fries and ice cream waffles.

Not only that, the fast food eatery plans to open a similar retro-concept A&W outlet in Ipoh Parade soon.

Time to whip out your vintage-inspired outfits and get ready for the ‘gram!
