As of July 19, 2020, the Malaysian Health Ministry (MOH) reports 15 new Covid-19 cases across the country, with 11 local cases and four other imported cases.

Of the 11 local infections, eight patients were Malaysian citizens identified in Sarawak (5 cases), Sabah (1 case), Selangor (1 case), and Johor (1 death), while the other three cases involved foreigners.

Additionally, MOH also reports the emergence of three new Covid-19 clusters among foreigners in the Klang Valley and East Malaysia.

The first group classified as the “Kuala Lumpur Restaurant” cluster, had two positive cases originating from an eatery in Brickfields, KL. Some 250 of the restaurant’s staff and another 236 customers have been successfully screened, with no other cases identified besides the two.

The second group named the “Rumah Kongsi” cluster in Sepang, Selangor had two foreign construction workers from Myanmar and Indonesia, respectively, confirmed positive for Covid-19. The outbreak was said to have originated from a construction site where the two had worked.

The third group, dubbed the “Kuching Jeti” cluster, involved two Indonesian fishermen who tested positive for infection. Authorities were still investigating the initial source of the outbreak.

Meanwhile, the country records its 123rd fatality from the coronavirus on July 17, 2020.

The deceased was a 72-year-old Malaysian man from Johor who arrived dead at the Keluang Hospital, that same day. He reportedly had a history of hypertension and stroke, and was apparently living in an old folks’ home.

In total, Malaysia records 8,779 cases of Covid-19, with 103 cases still active.
