PAS Wants Gender Segregation Implemented At Cinemas In Pahang

The Pahang chapter of PAS wants to recommend for the state government to follow the example in Terengganu and adopt the gender segregation rule for cinema viewers.

What you need to know: The Shariah-compliant policy was brought up by Pahang PAS commissioner Rosli Abdul Jabbar, who believes free mingling between men and women can lead to social issues. He said the recommendation was based on “sad-ad-zara’i”, the Islamic principle that prevents activities that may lead to harm. 

While Pahang is under Barisan Nasional (BN) rule, BN lynchpin Umno is partnered with PAS via the Muafakat Nasional pact.

So, PAS will not hesitate to recommend positive measures to be implemented in Pahang… if the Pahang government agrees.

How it got here: The Terengganu government implemented its segregation policy of men and women in cinemas on 4 July 2020. The initiative was made in accordance with the state’s guidelines on entertainment, cultural performances, tourism, and sports activities to ensure adherence to Shariah laws.
