Malaysians and foreigners entering the country from today onwards will have to pay a set fee for Covid-19 testing before being allowed to proceed for immigration clearance at any point of entry.

In a new Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Fee for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Detection Test) Regulations 2020 federal gazette, the testing fee differs for locals and foreigners and depends on the type of Covid-19 testing – antibody rapid test, antigen rapid test or polymerase chain reaction test.

Locals will pay within the range of RM30 to RM150 while foreigners are to pay between RM60 to RM250.

The decision of which type of Covid-19 test taken shall be made by the Health Director-General.

With the new regulation, any locals or foreigner in Malaysia can also request to undergo Covid-19 detection tests at any government hospitals or any place determined by the Director-General to be a place to undergo Covid-19 detection test. The same price schedule applies.

It also states that the Health Minister may partially or wholly waive the testing fee for any case at his discretion.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba signed the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Fee for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Detection Test) Regulations 2020 on 26th June.
