Post-MCO Beach Holiday Turns Tragic As One Drowned, One Missing At Teluk Batik

As the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) sees more areas of interest open to the public, plenty of people are venturing back into open waters with their friends for a bit of sun after months of being stuck indoors.
However, for a group of friends, this happy day splashing at Teluk Batik ended in tragedy, as one drowned and one is still missing.
The group of 8 friends were bathing in the sea when they were hit by a big wave. S. Rishethirabalan, 22, could only save one friend, while most of the others managed to swim to shore.
Manjung Fire and Rescue Station personnel rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call around 6.10pm yesterday. They recovered the body of one victim, while the other is still missing.
It’s important to remember that the ocean has a temperament of its own, and drowning is distressingly common at Malaysian beaches.
Always be sure to stick close to the shore and watch out for warning signs posted at public beaches. If you are unfamiliar with a certain body of water, it pays to exercise more precaution.
