Starting 1 July, Thailand plans to reopen its borders to allow certain foreign travellers including investors and business executives to enter the country.

Those who enter the kingdom will have to undergo the 14-day quarantine period.

Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesman Thaweesilp Wissanuyothin said those allowed to enter include:

  • business executives and investors
  • professionals
  • skilled workers
  • permanent residents and foreigners whose families live in Thailand
  • international teachers and students.

As for short-term businessmen, government guests and tourists under travel bubble plans, they will be allowed to enter without undergoing 14-day quarantine but officials are looking at other ways to monitor them.

Thaweesilp said those who have registered to enter Thailand are 700 business executives and investors, 15,400 skilled workers, 2,000 permanent residents and foreigners whose families are in Thailand, and 2,000 international teachers and students.

He also added that about 30,000 medical and wellness tourists had registered to enter the kingdom as well.

The government is also looking at opening all businesses – including entertainment outlets such pubs, bars and karaokes as they will resume operations on July 1.

Thailand started to ease on restrictions after the country has not recorded a single local Covid-19 case for a month.
