Covid-19: New Cluster Found In Sepang Just As Fourth Largest Cluster Ends

Malaysia’s latest Covid-19 progress comes as a mixed bag as a new cluster is found in Sepang just as the Health Ministry announced the end of the fourth largest cluster on 20th June.
The new cluster, Lanjut Cluster, was detected in Labu Lanjut, Sepang with five confirmed Covid-19 positive cases.
According to the Health Ministry, the index case was detected on 5th June from a patient in Serdang Hospital who was being treated for Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI).
Following the confirmation of the virus, active case detection revealed that 4 of his family members were also infected, including two of his children, two grandchildren. Three of them live in the same house, while one lives elsewhere.
Contract tracing and testing activities are still underway with 29 close contacts tested.
While the source of the infection is still being determined, the ministry suspects it’s related to visitation activity.
On the other hand, Malaysia’s fourth largest Covid-19 cluster – Pesantren Cluster – which infected 238 people, has officially ended.

Initially detected among returning Malaysian students from Indonesia, the ministry is confident that the cluster has been contained as the students were quarantined upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
The Pesantren Cluster was first detected on 19th April as Malaysian students returned home from Magetan in East Java, Indonesia.
Malaysia currently has 8,556 Covid-19 cases with 21 new additions. There are 289 active cases in the country as of 20th June.
