Covid-19 has affected many businesses who have to either reduce their manpower or cut a portion of their employees’ wages.

The same goes for Grab, the e-hailing company that decided to lay off around 360 (or 5%) of it’s employees in the near future.

According to Grab CEO Anthony Tan, he believes Grab is the last company to undertake mass layoffs this year.

He said it was clear by now that the pandemic could lead to prolonged depression and Grab had to be prepared for a long recovery period.

In order to achieve this goal, Grab had to stop several non-core projects, integrate multiple functions for greater efficiency and restructure its team to better adapt to the ever-changing business needs of the external environment.

Tan believes that if the plan meets its objectives, Grab will no longer need to implement staff reduction measures.
