Taxi drivers with expired Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licenses must renew their documentation by July 1 to be qualified for their Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) aid.

As part of the Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package (ESP), the government is providing public transportation and e-hailing drivers with cash to support their livelihoods during the Covid-19 crisis.

Taxi drivers, bus drivers, tour guides, and rickshaw operators are set to receive a one-off payment of RM600 while e-hailing drivers are entitled to receive RM500.

According to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), there are some 30,000 taxi drivers that have yet to renew their driving permits.

Previously, the Transport Ministry said that drivers who were unqualified to receive their BPN the first time around could essentially reapply by renewing their licenses, and details on the aid’s distribution would be announced after July 1.

The ministry also warned operators to comply with regulations and not drive around without valid documentation.
