The Malaysian Medical Association has highlighted their concern that third-parties are openly advertising Covid-19 screening kits, which is in violation of Malaysia’s legal restrictions against such promotions.

According to Malay Mail, the association noted that these parties were unethically taking advantage of public concern over the virus.

MMA president Dr N. Ganabaskaran said that despite the blatant violation of laws barring such advertising, the Ministry of Health have failed to take any action.

These ‘middlemen’ who are unrelated to the healthcare sector are taking advantage of the Covid-19 situation and are commercialising the screening test kit.

The danger lies in middlemen who may be not be following proper protocols and SOPs because they are not officially sanctioned to conduct these tests.

There are existing laws to control and regulate medical screenings for infectious diseases, but what is the point of having these laws if they are not being enforced?

Dr Ganabaskaran in the statement

The Ministry of Health has an official list of hospitals and healthcare providers that can carry out these screening services properly. If you really want to conduct a Covid-19 screening test on yourself, go for legitimate services with these lists of public and private hospitals and clinics.
