Before reopening their shops to patrons, barbers and hairdressers are encouraged to undergo Covid-19 screening tests to instill confidence in customers, according to Malaysian Bumiputera Barbers Association (MBBA) President TN Winda Mohd Tahir.

He said the testing will reassure the public to come to their shops on top of the existing preventive measures such as social distancing, using face masks and hand sanitizers.

However, because testing can be costly, he hopes that there are parties who are willing to help local entrepreneurs.

Previously, Winda said, if people wanted to get a haircut, they would have to set appointments to prevent overcrowding in their premises.

He also said that barber and salon trade associations are also seeking for assistance from the government as the Movement Control Order (MCO) severely impacted their businesses.

They are allowed to operate again on 10 June after being forced to close for almost 3 months since the MCO began in March due to potential infection concerns.

It’s also reported that haircuts would be a bit more expensive – by up to RM10 – because barbers and hairdressers will have to use disposable protective equipment when giving their services.
