The official birthday of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah falls on June 8, making it a public holiday nationwide.

The public holiday next Monday is also compulsory to be observed by the country and employers cannot ignore or replace the holiday. Any employee instructed to work on this date must be paid a public holiday rate.

The Human Resources Ministry said in a statement that the declaration is made under Section 8 of the Holidays Act 1951 and gazetted on March 18 under Section 60D (1)(a)(ii) of the Employment Act 1955 (Act 265).
