According to Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, all 7,000 registered childcare centres can now resume their operations as long as they follow guidelines.

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry has released new satisfactory and comprehensive SOPs for childcare centres. (These guidelines are supposed to be on ministry’s website, but TRP could not find the information at the time of writing.)

Ismail Sabri says that this move will help lift the burden of working parents who are going back to work and have no one to help care for the children at home.

He also mentioned that there are employers who force employees who need to care for their children to take unpaid leave instead of allowing them to work from home, something that the government has explicitly cautioned against.

The childcare centres allowed to reopen refer to taska, while preschools and kindergartens (tadika and tabika respectively) will still need to wait as the government coordinates the SOPs required.

This is because the management of preschools and kindergartens are under the supervision of multiple ministries, including the Ministry of Education.
