Only Three Active Covid-19 Clusters Left In Malaysia

Three months after Covid-19 cases erupted in Malaysia in March, only three active clusters remain in the country.

At the daily Covid-19 press conference, Health Director General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed that the three active clusters are Chow Kit Market, Pudu and Bukit Jalil Immigration detention centre.

The Chow Kit market and Pudu clusters recorded one new case each, while the Bukit Jalil detention centre had three new cases on 28th May.

Dr Noor Hisham explained that a total of 1,545 samples were screened yesterday at the Bukit Jalil detention centre, including 1,421 detainees, one child of a detainee and 123 staff. As a result, 283 positive cases were detected at the detention centre.

He also explained that active Covid-19 screening was being carried out at the Semenyih depot and Sepang immigration detention centre.

For the Semenyih depot, there were no new cases reported with 66 cumulative cases recorded so far, including one staff. We are still awaiting the results of four samples. At the Sepang immigration detention centre, we have screened 1,450 samples and all 36 positive cases involve detainees. There are no pending test results.

In total, the Health DG revealed that  31,204 foreigners have been screened for Covid-19 and 1,858 positive cases were detected.

On 25th May, Malaysia reported a spike in Covid-19 cases after 112 of the 172 new cases were detected at the three immigration centres.

However, new case numbers have dropped to their lowest since the Movement Control Order (MCO) began at an increase of only 10 cases yesterday.
