People Stuck In Hometowns After Sneaking Back For Raya May Risk Losing Their Jobs

People who’ve snuck to their hometowns to celebrate Raya now face the risk of losing their jobs as they’re now stuck with the interstate travel ban in place.
Executive director of the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) Datuk Shamsuddin Bardan has reportedly said that employees in the private sector who fail to show up for work for two consecutive days can be fired.
Those employed in the civil service aren’t exempt either as they run the risk of disciplinary action if they do not report back to work after the festivities, warned Public Service Department director-general Datuk Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman.
The only way to avoid the risk of losing their jobs is for people to return and face the penalties, which includes a RM1,000 compound as stipulated under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) for violating the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob addressed the issue at his daily CMCO press conference yesterday, urging those who’ve violated the CMCO to come clean and not fear the compound or legal action.
They managed to find their way back to their hometowns, but now fear having to face police action at roadblocks when they return to the city. Just pay the compound. Don’t lose your jobs.
