The Malaysian Embassies in foreign countries are meant to help Malaysians who are overseas. During the time of a global pandemic, when national borders are on lockdown and all flights are gounded, embassies are even more crucial for Malaysians who need assistance returning to Malaysia.

Due to lockdown rules and regulations in their respective countries, some Malaysians abroad are simply unable to physically go to an embassy. Instead, they can now fill up forms that will be made available online by the Foreign Ministry.

Malaysians returning to the country will need to comply with a mandatory 14-day quarantine at one of the quarantine centers, for which they must bear 50% of the cost.

Part of the online form that will be made available is also the option of an ‘akujanji‘, where the returnee promises to pay the fees.

While the announcement was made during a press conference on 22 May by Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the online form mentioned has not yet been made available on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or announced on their official social media outlets yet.
