Imagine how upsetting it might be to find out that you’ve tested positive for Covid-19 again after just recovering from the lethal virus.

That’s what 357 former Covid-19 patients in Singapore faced when their Health Ministry accidentally sent out an erroneous text message to the newly recovered patients.

In a statement released on 18 May apologising for any “inconvenience and anxiety caused” by their mistake, the Singaporean Health Ministry explained that the text message happened due to a glitch in their system.

The messages had been sent due to an IT system testing glitch we sought to improve the efficiency of our system.

According to former Covid-19 patients who spoke to Channel News Asia, they too received the message after previously being confirmed as negative and discharged from the hospital.

To date, Singapore has one of the highest tallies in Asia with 28,794 confirmed Covid-19 cases. Of these, 10,365 have recovered. Singapore’s Covid-19 death toll is at 22.

The country is been under lockdown and will continue to do so until 1 June 2020.
