Humans are social creatures, finding comfort in people. With the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in place, people are finding that usually crowded areas such as shopping malls might be emptier than usual.
However, Malaysian mall-goers need not worry about feeling lonely, as Sunway Pyramid has populated the mall with mannequins to make self-isolation a little easier.
Much like Will Smith’s character in the movie I Am Legend, who is the last remaining human after a virus wipes out humanity, mannequins seem to be popular replacements for actual humans.
The fashionably-clad mannequins are cleverly placed on benches at the mall to enforce social distancing, leaving space for only one person. The mall even included tent cards for the clothes the mannequins are modelling in an effort to promote the mall’s fashion retail stores as well.
Netizens were tickled pink by the mannequin, with some women joking that there should be male mannequins for company as well. Some even wondered if the mannequins “come to life” ala Night At The Museum.
Other netizens raised more serious concerns, such as the mannequin inviting more contact as people may touch and pose with it, leading to a serious spreading of germs.
