All members of Parliament (MPs) and Parliament staff have been screened for Covid-19 and tested negative for the infection.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah told the press during his daily Covid-19 briefing on 16 May that more than 750 tests have been carried out on MPs and Parliament staff so far with none of them testing positive at the time of writing.

We have screened everyone in Parliament, with yesterday being the last day… not only members of Parliament but also Parliament staff.

He added that the Health Ministry will only receive the definitive set of results on 17 May, but stressed that so far there have been no positive cases detected among those in Parliament.

Dewan Rakyat members are due to convene for a one-day sitting on 18 May. Previously, it was reported that all MPs were required to undergo Covid-19 testing before being allowed to sit in for the meeting.

Despite this, Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Mohd Md Yusof cited health concerns when he announced on 13 May that the Parliamentary sitting will end immediately after the Agong delivers the Royal Address and that there will be no debate scheduled for the remainder of the day.
