Public Transport Fares Cannot Be Increased As Fuel Prices Are Too Low, Says Ismail Sabri

Public transport operators are not allowed to increase fares for now as fuel prices are too low, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said that although businesses are suffering losses because they can only half their usual capacity, but the low fuel prices should be able to dampen the costs.

Recently, the Transport Ministry was looking at charging more and not incur the costs to operators as they have to cut their capacity by half because of social distancing .

Ismail said that a special ministers’ meeting was held after after complaints were made about the hikes in Langkawi’s ferry ticket prices.

He added that the meeting decided to not allow airline carriers to hike their fares at the moment for the same reasons.
