Weekly Interstate Travel Allowed For Husbands And Wives Living Apart

Married couples who are living apart in different states for work are allowed to travel interstate and visit their spouses as often as once a week.
This is according to Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who spoke about the issue during his press conference today (14 May), saying that the decision was made by the National Security Council (MKN).
Those who wish to do so (travel interstate to meet their spouse) must report themselves to the nearest police station.

This comes after the issue was highlighted by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during his special televised address on 10 May.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that he was told, some married couples who have been living apart due to work have been unable to see their loved ones for two months.ÂÂ
Due to the movement restriction, there are husbands who haven’t seen their wives and children for two months.

Therefore, the government has decided to allow married couples the flexibility to travel interstate to meet their families. All they have to do is make travel applications through the Gerak Malaysia app or at the nearest police station.
He also added that he hoped the governments of Sabah and Sarawak would make the same allowances for the married couples there.
