Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob revealed that the Transport Ministry is currently looking into raising fares on public transportation after operators complained of losses due to social distancing rules.

Speaking at the daily press conference on the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), Ismail Sabri said that the government had received complaints from public transport operators that cutting passenger capacity by half was costly.

He then explained that the matter was discussed during a cabinet meeting, especially regarding airfare, and the Transport Ministry will look into the matter to not incur losses to transportation operators.

Ismail Sabri said that the ministry will present their proposal to the cabinet soon.

At the same time, he also commented on the complaints of parents that school bus operators are still charging monthly fees despite halted services due to the closing of schools.

This should not have happened. The Transport Ministry should take action because they issue the licenses to school bus operators.
