Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri says that the management of high-rise buildings such as apartments and condominiums should allow unit reparations and renovations to be carried out during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

He said that there shouldn’t be any reason to prohibit these works as these sectors are allowed to operate during the CMCO.

They (building management) have to give permission to residents for any repair or renovation works since the government has allowed it.

However, he stressed that this permission is subject to contractors adhering to SOP (standard operating procedure) in place by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), National Security Council (MKN) or local government.

At the daily CMCO briefing, Ismail Sabri also added that condominium management should not bar residents from entering after the government allowed stranded Malasysians to return home between 7th to 10 May over the weekend.

His response was to a reporter’s question on complaints by Malaysians who returned to their rented units only to be refused entry. They had left before the MCO was implemented on 18th March and were forced to find alternate accommodation as they returned following the decision to reopen businesses from 4th May.
