Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that a total of 60 Covid-19 cases have been detected from a cluster involving factory workers in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan.

The virus was first detected when a worker of the factory became sick with fever, cough, runny nose, breathlessness and headache on 5th April.

He was then screened for the virus at a health clinic on 10th April. Two days later, test results confirmed he was Covid-19 positive.

As of noon yesterday, the Health Ministry screened a total of 786 individuals, including workers’ families and friends, and found 286 negative while the results for the remaining 440 are still pending.

The 60 workers who tested positive for the infection comprise 25 Nepalese, 18 Bangladeshi, 8 Indonesians, 7 Malaysians and two from Myanmar.

During his daily Covid-19 briefing yesterday (8th May), Dr Noor Hisham explained that the Health Ministry is still investigating the cause of the cluster, but requested that factories adhere to the SOP released to prevent transmission of the virus at workplaces.
