Yesterday, the government announced that most sectors will be able to resume activities and the movement control order (MCO) rules will be relaxed with social distancing practiced under the new Conditional MCO.

Almost immediately, this has led to argument on both sides, with some saying that it’s too early to lift the MCO and other who are celebrating being able to return to ‘normal’.

A petition was started on Change.org to resume the MCO as-is, while urging the government to cancel the Conditional MCO.

As of the time of writing, over 220,000 Malaysians have signed the petition out of the end goal of 300,000.

The petition claims that for the future and safety of the country, the MCO must continue the way it has. It claims that the Conditional MCO is a mistake that has been made in other countries, causing 2nd- and 3rd- waves of infections.

They also urge the government to not submit to capitalist greed for profit without regards to the health and welfare of their workers.

Some Malaysians shared their reasons for not wanting a Conditional MCO.
