The spread of Covid-19 has affected the entire globe and Malaysians are helping to fight the spread of coronavirus whether it’s on local shores or around the world.

One of them is immunologist Professor Suresh Mahaligam, who is currently leading a team of researchers in an Australian university to develop a vaccine for Covid-19.

The Star reported that the “live-attenuated vaccine” would be highly effective as it will boost cellular and antibody immune responses against the virus.

According to vaccines.gov, live vaccines use a weakened (or attenuated) form of the germ that causes a disease and has been used to treat measles, mumps, rubella and rotavirus.

Professor Suresh also said live-attentuated vaccines can be manufactured on a large scale besides being a well-known regulatory approval pathway.

Currently, the team is at the pre-clinical stage and targets that the vaccine will hit the market sometime in late 2021.
