Dewan Rakyat members of parliament (MPs) will have to undergo Covid-19 testing in order to attend the special one-day Parliament sitting on 18 May.

According to a report by Malaysiakini, the MP of Bukit Bendera, Wong Hon Wai, confirmed that he had received a letter from the Dewan Rakyat secretary, Riduan Rahmat, which said that all MPs attending the session must first be tested to ensure the safety of all attendees.

The report added that screening tests will be conducted in the Parliament complex between 9am and 3pm on 14 and 15 May.

MPs are also allowed to be tested at any public hospital or clinic, though these will require official letters to confirm that the tests took place two to three days before 18 May.

Meanwhile, MPs that opt to use private facilities for their test can do so at their own expense.

The letter from Riduan also stated that MPs who fail to be tested for Covid-19 will be prohibited from attending the sitting.

Meanwhile, Malay Mail wrote that Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamed Ariff Md Yusoff informed Pakatan Harapan representatives during a meeting on 27 April that all MPs must undergo a Covid-19 test at least two days before 18 May.
