Those found violating the Movement Control Order (MCO) will have to record their statements at the police station before the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) decides whether to charge them in court, according to Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said the procedure is the same for all individuals for allegedly violating the MCO.
Ismail was addressing a query by the media regarding the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for those breaching the order as some are taken to court straight away while others have their statements recorded first.
Earlier, the daughter of UMNO President Datuk Nurul Hidayah Ahmad Zahid was called in by the police to record her statement after she flouted the MCO along with her husband to visit a few Ministers in Putrajaya.
This is in contrast to another case involving a student who was fined and sentenced to a week in jail for sending a birthday cake to her boyfriend around the same time.
First offenders will face up to six months jail time and a fine. If it’s a second offence, they will be charged a RM1,000 fine and can be locked up for up to 6 months.
