All coffee drinkers have an inherent understanding of the good and joy that the caffeinated drink brings to us.

In fact, ever since the whole world went into lockdown, it’s one of the few drinks that’s saving us… literally.

Several studies on the caffeinated brew show that moderate consumption of up to 5 cups (about 200ml each) of plain black coffee a day can be a part of a healthy diet.

For instance, one study published in the JAMA Internal Medicine found that coffee drinking was inversely associated with mortality. This meant that coffee drinkers on average live longer than non drinkers.

Nothing more brew-tiful than a cup of coffee.

This comes as a relief against the backdrop of the deadly pandemic that killed over 200,000 people worldwide.

Another blessed advantage of having a cup of coffee is it’s potential weight-busting properties, especially pertinent during the lockdown as physical activities are reduced while fridge visits are increased.

Researchers from the University of Illinois found that drinking four cups of coffee daily can protect your waistline from expanding.

Though the study was conducted on rats, it found after 4 weeks that the groups that were given caffeine had accumulated less body fat than the rats in other groups.

These findings indicate that caffeine reduced the storage of lipids in fat cells and limited weight gain and cholesterol production, despite a diet that was high in fat and sugar.

So, go ahead and enjoy that cup of coffee. If you’re not a coffee drinker, there’s still time to start. After all, it’s always better latte than never!
