UK-trained Malaysian Dr Amalina Bakri announced on her personal Twitter that she is joining the first of the UK vaccine trials at the National Institute of Health Research’s Imperial Clinical Research Facility led by Dr Katrina Pollock.

Dr Amalina will be involved in recruiting healthy volunteers and vaccinating them in the upcoming weeks.

The UK is speeding up vaccine trials done by Imperial College by setting up funds amounting to €22.5 million (about RM105.79 million).

Professor Robin Shattock and his team from Imperial College’s Department of Infectious Disesases have been testing an RNA vaccine candidate on animals since early February of this year.

Initial findings have been positive, as the vaccinated animals are shown to produce neutralizing antibodies against the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Now, human vaccine trials are beginning to see if the same response can be produced in humans.

After all, the best way to defeat coronavirus is through a vaccine, a sentiment echoed by the UN. That’s why it’s so crucial that a vaccine is tried and tested as soon as possible.

The study is only limited to the UK, so if you have friends or family living there and would like to take part, you can have them fill in this pre-screening questionnaire. Please note that the questionnaire is NOT for those currently residing in Malaysia.
