It’s a sad day for many of us who used to tune it to the RTM news in the 80s and 90s as Astro Awani reported the passing of news anchor Farit Ismeth Emir today.

He breathed his last at Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya, Selangor at the age of 66.

The news of his passing was confirmed by his son Farzwa De-Attaher Emir aka DJ Fuzz with no mention of the circumstances surrounding his death.

Farit Ismeth was known for his intense vocal prowess that earned him the moniker of “the man with the golden voice.”

Scores of Malaysians would tune into their television sets at night to listen to Farit narrate current events, especially on the hour-long world news programme at 10pm called Dunia Jam 10.

He was also the voice behind some of the most iconic advertisements in the country, namely the “Gaya, mutu dan keunggulan” ads of the 80s that’s permanently etched into the minds of many.

Joining RTM in 1986, he was known as Pak Ngah among his colleagues. Farit’s passing comes as a blow to the entire industry.

TRP would like to express our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
